Have you decided to learn driving and joined a driving school recently? The first few lessons can be a bit confusing, but an instructor will be there to guide you. So there is nothing to worry about. Here are some of the things will you get to know in your first driving lesson:
Car Controls And Safety Checks
In this lesson, you will learn how to use the accelerator, brake, and clutch. You will also get to know how to use the emergency brake and indicator and change gears. You will become acquainted with the vehicle as well as recognize the controls and how to use them correctly.
Correct Positioning
In this lesson, you will learn how to correctly position your car on the road, especially when entering and exiting junctions, changing lanes, trying to negotiate bends and crossing intersections. Your instructor will make sure that you can drive straight on a road while maintaining an accurate position in your lane.
Changing Direction
This lesson focuses on making sure you can turn left and right, turn in roundabouts, and navigate intersections correctly. You will also get to learn about how to use the indicators. Your instructor will teach you about the mirror, signal, mirror, maneuver (MSMM) routine as well.
Progression Management
You will get to learn how to control the speed of the vehicle depending on the speed limit of the road. By the end of this lesson, you will get to learn the laws about how to operate a car safely at different speeds.
Anticipation And Reaction
In this stage, you will be taught how to drive in different weather conditions. Whether it’s raining or snowing, or foggy, this lesson will help you know how to drive in these conditions. You will also learn how to choose and use the proper speed, maintain safe distances, and break correctly.

The EDT driving lessons will teach you essential driving skills. The 12 EDT lessons are part of RSA’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, which focuses on improving road safety.
